New media · VCs & startups

Turn your point of view into media people choose to follow.

W2D1 helps venture firms and startups build an editorial programme around a clear audience. We shape the format, produce the conversations, make the clips and plan how the work reaches the right people.

Real shows. Distinct voices. A reason to come back.

The idea

A channel you own. A point of view people recognise.

In venture, “new media” describes a more direct way to build an audience: make useful work in your own voice, publish it through channels you control and give people a reason to come back. It can involve video, podcasts, writing and social content. The format follows the audience and the idea.

a16z has described its New Media work as a combination of creative production, owned distribution and support for founders. Our version starts with the work W2D1 knows how to run: a podcast or video-led editorial programme built for a defined audience in the Australian startup ecosystem.

Who it serves

A useful media presence for two different jobs.

VCs and startups have different audiences. Both need a format they can sustain and ideas worth sharing.

For venture firms

Make your investment point of view useful to founders.

Give the firm a recognisable voice beyond announcements. A partner-led series can unpack your thesis, introduce the people you back and create a regular reason for founders to spend time with you.

  • A thesis-led show
  • Portfolio and founder stories
  • A focused release around a fund or thesis launch

For startups

Help people understand what you see before they need to buy.

A founder or operator with a strong point of view can teach the market, show the thinking behind a product and build familiarity with future customers, partners and hires.

  • A founder-led interview series
  • Video conversations and short clips
  • Publishing assets for your own channels

What we build

An editorial system that can keep shipping.

The value is in the whole loop: decide who the work is for, make something worth watching or hearing, then publish it consistently.

01

Editorial strategy

Define the audience, point of view, host, format, guest plan, distribution and a useful measure of progress.

02

A flagship format

Build a podcast or video-led series that gives the audience a reason to return. We plan and produce the conversations with you.

03

Content from each recording

Edit the full episode and select short clips, show notes and publishing-ready assets that carry the strongest ideas further.

04

A publishing rhythm

Prepare the agreed channels and release plan, then review what reaches the right people and what the next run should improve.

Every engagement has a written scope. Studio recording, guest booking, writing, paid promotion and Day One Network distribution are included only when agreed. Audience, leads and deals are never guaranteed.

How to start

Start small enough to learn. Build from there.

You do not need to commit to an open-ended content operation on day one. We start by putting the audience, format and publishing plan on paper.

Questions

Before we build anything.

Does new media have to be a podcast?

No. The term covers several formats. W2D1's strongest starting point is a podcast or video-led editorial series, with clips and other assets planned around it.

Can our team keep its own channels?

Yes. We can produce finished work for channels you own. Publishing by W2D1 and distribution through Day One depend on the agreed programme scope.

What if we already have a show?

We can review its audience, format and distribution, then either shape a new editorial programme or take on production for your existing channels.

What does the first conversation cover?

In 25 minutes, we can discuss who you need to reach, what your team has to say and whether a paid strategy sprint is a useful next step.
